Axel Strotbek was born on 2 March 1964 in Hamelin (Lower Saxony).
Between 1984 and 1986 he acquired his first diploma in Industrial Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe. He then went to the University of Linköping in Sweden for his main course of studies before returning to the University of Karlsruhe to complete his degree in Industrial Engineering in 1989.
After an MBA course at the University of Illinois at Chicago, he joined the Volkswagen Group in August 1991 as Assistant to the Board Member for Controlling and Accounting of the Volkswagen brand.
After holding various positions in Controlling and General Financial Planning, he moved to Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH in Zwickau in November 2000 where he was appointed Managing Director for Finance and Controlling. Since September 2004, Axel Strotbek has been Executive Vice President for Finance at the Volkswagen Group China in Beijing.
He is married and has three children.
With effect from 1 September 2007, Strotbek is responsible for the Finance and Organisation division at AUDI AG.
