The world’s most famous festival of music and theatre

Salzburg has always been adept at masterfully blending tradition with innovation. The idea behind the Salzburg Festival is to stage illustrious artistic performances in a city whose own baroque architecture forms the perfect backdrop. Audi has been a principal sponsor of the world-renowned music festival since 1995.

The 2008 Salzburg Festival

The idea behind the Salzburg Festival is to present performances of opera, plays and concerts of the highest artistic calibre, held in a short period of five to six weeks during the summer. And in a city that in itself provides the finest backdrop, with its perfectly preserved baroque architecture. This year, too, from 26 July to 31 August a broad spectrum of “dramatic play-acting in the strongest sense” awaits the visitor (quote from founding father Hugo von Hofmannsthal).

“House for Mozart” concert hall

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the “House for Mozart” concert hall was inaugurated in Salzburg in June 2006. Offering perfect acoustics and ideal sightlines, this state-of-the-art auditorium complements Salzburg’s existing “Großes Festspielhaus” and “Felsenreitschule” venues. Audi provided a generous donation towards the reconstruction of the former “Kleines Festspielhaus” festival hall.

Audi Night 2007

The “Audi Night” was again one of the social highlights at this year’s Salzburg Festival. Following the premiere of Josef Haydn’s Armida opera, a number of celebrity guests along with the Armida cast came together at the Audi Night on the Mönchsberg, high above the roofs of the city.
