Unlike the internationally focused endurance races at Le Mans and at the Nürburgring, the Zolder 24 Hours tend to be more of a national Belgian event. At this race, GT vehicles of the GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4 categories, touring cars and – since 2012 – small CN class sports prototypes are eligible to enter.
In 2012, the three Belgian race teams WRT (Audi), Marc VDS (BMW) and Prospeed Competition (Porsche) fought a thrilling battle for overall victory. In the end, the Belgian customer sport team WRT repeated its success from the previous year. Marco Bonanomi, Anthony Kumpen, Edward Sandström and Laurens Vanthoor in the Audi R8 LMS ultra won with a five-lap advantage. For the Belgian Anthony Kumpen, this marked the sixth overall victory at this event.
Under its factory commitments, Audi won the races at Le Mans, at the Nürburgring and at Spa. The triumph of the Belgian privateer team adds a fourth 24-hour victory to the brand’s endurance racing tally this year.
