The long haul to the title

The new FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) is the fifth motorsport World Championship in the automobile sector after Formula 1, WRC, WTCC and GT1. For the first time since the 1992 the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, FIA, organizes a World Championship title for sports prototypes, which are actually the most technically challenging race cars today.

A new era for Audi coincides with the beginning of the WEC. The brand with the four rings last won a World Championship title in 1984 – at that time in rallying. The WEC makes special demands of both the drivers and technology, since nowhere else are more kilometers completed at race pace before the new World Champion is crowned.

The new World Championship is also of particularly great importance as the traditional 24 hour race at Le Mans is also part of the calendar. Audi contests sports car races since 1999 and aims to win this endurance classic for the eleventh time this year.
