In January 1963, Auto Union GmbH in Ingolstadt launched the DKW F 12 as the successor to the DKW Junior de Luxe. A spacious body, disc brakes on the front axle and modified engine with 900 cc and 40 hp were features of the new model. In September 1963, Auto Union presented the DKW F 12 as a sporty, elegant roadster. Engine power was increased to 45 hp and the gearbox was supplied as standard with a freewheel facility.
