From August 1982, the revolutionary Audi 100 in streamline form was built. With a drag coefficient of just cw=0.3, it was the most streamlined series production vehicle of its time, gaining the coveted "Golden Steering Wheel" and the "Car of the Year" awards.
From the autumn of 1983, the Audi 100 was also available as a hatchback/estate version with the model designation Avant. The Avant shared all the model upgrading measures of the saloon models and from 1984 was also available as a quattro. From the autumn of 1985, all body shells were fully galvanised.
