The “Shorty” was developed as a rally car to compete in Group B races. A series of 200 vehicles was needed to gain type approval. The road version was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1983.
Initially available for a basic price of DM 195,000, which increased to DM 230,500 from January 1985, the sport quattro remained an exclusive racing car approved for use on the road.
