From September 27 to 29, Audi Tradition sent the legendary Audi Sport quattro S1 Pikes Peak to the starting line. At the wheel of this potent car, with its power output of almost 600 bhp: Legendary rally star Walter Röhrl. In this car he conquered the Pikes Peak hillclimb in Colorado – in record time.
Six kilometres long, with a 700-metre difference in altitude: The International Edelweiss Mountain Award Rossfeld Berchtesgaden recalls the glorious years of hillclimbs counting toward the European championship.
The spectators are part of this nostalgic journey through time
The event bridges the gap between the early days of the hillclimb as a motor sport activity and the first oil crisis which led to the end of internationally significant hillclimbs. Appropriate clothing involves the spectators more closely in this event. Historic buses also help to create the ambience of the 1960s, when motor sport captivated spectators but also involved them more closely in the events they were watching.
