On 28 May 2010, the competition entrants presented their initial ideas for the city of the future at the Royal Institute of British Architects. In their presentations, the architects considered aspects such as mobility, transformation and sustainability.
In order to prepare for the workshop in London, the architects met in Ingolstadt where they talked shop with Audi experts from Technical Development, Design, Brand Strategy and Corporate Strategy. They discussed future-oriented topics, such as active and passive safety, electrification and multimedia networking, as well as their effects on the mobility of the future.
The Audi Think Tank and Stylepark AG also took part in the workshop in London’s Design Museum. The competition gives each firm of architects the licence to choose their own approach to the subject.
“In order to shape the automotive future it is important to analyse trends and think outside the box,” said Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, commenting on the opening event. “Entering into discussions with pioneers from another discipline, which also has a great many parallels with automotive engineering, is extremely inspiring. Especially because the architects come from totally different cultural backgrounds.”
