Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.
In 1998 AUDI AG acquired the share capital of the sports car manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., resulting in the foundation of Automobili Lamborghini Holding S.p.A. This company will uphold the tradition and continue the success of the famous sports car manufacturer into the future.
The Italian super sports car manufacturer has been a 100 per cent subsidiary of AUDI AG since July 1998; the acquisition has developed into a big success story. The Gallardo product line, established in 2003, has developed into the most successful Lamborghini model series ever with over 14,000 produced cars. Identifying features included its V10 engine and aluminum body, in which Lamborghini and Audi exploited significant synergies. Systematic implementation of lightweight design is one of the core competencies of the two brands.
In September 2000 VOLKSWAGEN GROUP ITALIA S.P.A. was also fully integrated into the holding. This company functions as the general importer for the Audi, SEAT, Škoda, Volkswagen Passenger Car and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle brands in Italy.
In Sant’Agata Bolognese, 1,175 employees work at the 200.000 m2 (49.42 acre) plant site where the Aventador and the new Huracán are produced on two lines. The “Centro Stile” built in 2004 is a state-of-the-art world scale design center. A photovoltaic system on the roofs of the plant buildings, the largest in the Emilia-Romagna industrial region, generates electricity. This is an important step towards attaining CO2-neutral production, which has been defined as a goal for 2015. Automobili Lamborghini was the first company in the Italian automotive industry to earn EMAS certification and ISO 50001 certification; they are a testimony to the brand’s achievements in environmental management and energy efficiency.
Since the beginning of the century and as a result of ongoing high investments into the model range as well as into technological innovations Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. has found itself on a continous ascent. In 2014, the super sports car manufacturer increased its customer deliveries from 2,121 to 2,650 units.
2013 was the third year of sales increases in a row. With 1,001 units of the Lamborghini Aventador sold, it also marked the record year of V12 sales. “In the year of our 50th anniversary, Lamborghini has delivered a very satisfying performance, confirming the strength of our product and commercial strategy”, said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. “Even in its last year of production the Lamborghini Gallardo has shown strong sales, whereas the Aventador has beaten all records of V12 model sales in our history. The USA and China are our biggest single markets, the Middle East and Japan are very strong and Europe is in line with the trend in our market segment.” Customer interest is giving the company reason for great confidence: current orders for the Aventador Coupé and Roadster have already filled production capacities for the next 12 months.
In 2014, the company is set to continue on its path of success. The year is marked by the global launch and sales start of the successor of the Gallardo, the new Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4. The company will continue to invest into the brand presence on major markets and further increase its dealer network. Lamborghini is also engaged in car racing – the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo is held on three continents. After five seasons in Europe and a successful debut in Asia in 2012, the world’s fastest one-make series has been launched in the USA in 2013.
