Audi 100L, 1969
In 1966 Auto Union became a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagenwerk AG. The carmakers in Ingolstadt were prevented from developing their own vehicle. As Head of Development, Ludwig Kraus did not think very much of such directives. The Audi 100 was developed, effectively in secret, under his guidance. The police were a major user of the agile Audi 100, employing it as a routine patrol car on account of its performance and roadholding. Two-tone paint finish, flashing blue light and siren were supplied ex works.
