FAW Group Corporation (FAW)
Audi China was established in Beijing in 2009 as a fully owned subsidiary of AUDI AG. The company has approximately 600 employees and coordinates the business cooperation between AUDI AG, the FAW Group and the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.
The foundation stone for the successful presence of AUDI AG in China was laid more than 25 years ago, in 1988. After negotiations lasting a year, the first joint venture agreement was signed with the Chinese First Automobile Works (FAW), based in the province of Jijin in Northeast China. This was followed by another important milestone in 1995 – the inclusion in the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture, today the China FAW Group Corporation (FAW), which had been established in 1991.
AUDI AG has a 10 percent share in the joint venture. The successful production of a modified Audi 100 with V6 engine was followed in January 2000 by the market launch of the A6. Together with FAW, this model has been specifically adapted to the needs of the Chinese market.
AUDI AG is now represented in China by a joint venture and a fully owned subsidiary. Together with the joint venture partners Volkswagen and the chinese company First Automotive Works (FAW), Audi produces the Audi A4 L, Audi A6 L, Audi Q3 and Audi Q5 models in Changchun. The Audi A3 Sportback and the Audi A3 Saloon have been manufactured on the production line in Foshan since 2014. The A6 L and Audi A4 L were developed especially for China with an extended wheelbase.
