Eifel Rallye Festival 2014
Audi Tradition participated in Germany’s biggest rally event in Daun for the second time. From 23 to 26 July, the brand with the four rings celebrated one of the biggest anniversaries of its history in motorsport in front of 35,000 spectators.
Audi rallye icons
The appearance by Audi Tradition was one of this year’s highlights. The heritage department of AUDI AG came with rally icons Stig Blomqvist and Harald Demuth, and brought along the 1984 cars of the year – the Audi Rallye quattro A2 and the Audi Sport quattro. That year Audi won the manufacturers’ and the drivers’ world championships, celebrating its greatest triumph of the rally era. Stig Blomqvist from Sweden was also behind the wheel back then.
It was also 30 years ago that Harald Demuth won the German Championship in an Audi. In Daun, Demuth drove the stages in the original Audi Rallye quattro A2. His colleague Stig Blomqvist raced the Audi Sport quattro Rallye.

The Audi sport quattro was the successor to the Audi Rallye quattro A2 and developed 420 bhp. Its 30-centimetre-shorter wheelbase earned it the nickname “Shorty”. The car driven in Daun took second place in the 1985 Rallye Monte Carlo.
The car’s crew from 1985 was reunited in Daun – the event was organised by Christian Geistdörfer, and his long-time driving partner Walter Röhrl was the guest of honour.
