Audi Type SS "Zwickau" Pullman saloon, 1930
The Audi Type SS was presented in 1929 and despite its relatively low cost was a very prestigious car. The 8-cylinder engine had been procured by DKW Chairman Jörgen Skafte Rasmussen, who became the majority shareholder of Audiwerke AG in 1928, from the bankruptcy assets of the American carmaker Rickenbacker. The engine was then produced at the DKW factory in Scharfenstein. From there, the engines were supplied to Zwickau where they were installed in various Audi models from 1929 to 1932.
