Audi assembles the models Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8 L and Audi Q7 at the site in Kaluga, Russia. In the semi knocked down (SKD) process, the automobiles are first fully assembled at Audi’s plant in Neckarsulm, Germany. They are then partially dismantled before the SKD kits are transported by rail to Kaluga. Assembly is carried out by Volkswagen Group RUS in accordance with the technical and quality specifications of AUDI AG. 2,648 Audi models were produced there in 2016.
The Volkswagen plant in Kaluga is approximately 170 kilometers southwest of Moscow. Since 2007, VW and Skoda models have been assembled here from CKD kits (CKD = completely knocked down). CKD assembly at the Kaluga plant comprises – as well as the assembly line – a paint shop, a body shop and since 2015 also local engine production. In addition to CKD assembly, the plant also has an SKD assembly area.
