The Champion

René Rast clinched his greatest success in 2017 since having been active for Audi ever since the 2011 season: DTM champion! In his first full season, the rookie impressed with three race wins and three pole positions. This coupled with his consistency kept him in the title race and saw him winning the 2017 drivers’ title in the season’s final race at Hockenheim.  At the wheel of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 car, he has also been one of the best and most successful GT drivers in the world. Rast has also left a strong impression in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro. The young family man added to his repertoire with a total of three DTM entries in 2016. In his second DTM race, Rast took his first points in Hockenheim in October 2016, and in doing so recommended himself for the 2017 DTM team, which paid dividends in the form of a new champion being crowned for the brand with the four rings.

“A brilliant year, a brilliant last day. I had huge fun the whole season,” said Rast. “Thank you to Audi, thank you to Rosberg and thank you to everyone who helped me on my way to the title. We had highs as well as lows. I believe the key to success was that we never stopped working hard for it. That we achieved it in the end is simply incredible.”
