Audi Sport on the growth track: the first Audi R8 LMS GT3 race car debuted in 2009, in 2015 the second generation followed. In 2016, Audi Sport unveiled the Audi RS 3 LMS for the TCR category. In 2017, the model range expands yet again: the Audi R8 LMS comes as a GT4 variant.
“Even today there are 13 racing championships worldwide in which GT4 models compete,” says Stephan Winkelmann, Managing Director Audi Sport GmbH. “Audi Sport GmbH is one of the leading providers in the customer racing categories GT3 and TCR. Now we are backing the GT4 class at the right time. This rapidly growing business segment and the common DNA of race cars and production underline our claim of advancing to a genuine global player in the high-performance league.”
Active in four segments
Audi Sport now competes in four motorsport segments as attractive suppliers. The Audi Sport TT Cup provides budding young talents with the opportunity to get started in motorsport with Audi. The race cars are prepared by a central single company and are not offered for purchase.
The Audi RS 3 LMS is suited for cost-effective entry in national and international touring car racing. The new Audi R8 LMS GT4 fills the gap between the RS 3 LMS and the Audi R8 LMS for GT3 racing, which represents the pinnacle of the Audi Sport customer racing programme.
