2017 International Grossglockner Grand Prix

From September 21 to 23, visitors to the Grossglockner Grand Prix will be able to enjoy a special delicacy: accompanied by the unmistakable sound from 16 cylinders, the most powerful of all the Auto Union Silver Arrows will take its 520 horsepower up the high alpine road.

Memories of "The Mountain King" Hans Stuck

In the 1930s, the Auto Union racing drivers climbed to the summits with great success at the then popular mountain races. The most successful of all was Hans Stuck, who, as a result, was given the nickname "The Mountain King". His son, Hans-Joachim Stuck, will be following in his father's footsteps at the Grossglockner event. The former Formula 1 driver said: "Driving this car, following in my father's footsteps, is very emotional for me."

Auto Union Grand-Prix racing car Type C

The most important design feature of the Auto Union Grand-Prix racing car Type C designed by Ferdinand Porsche is the 16-cylinder V engine positioned between the driver and the rear axle. The 6-liter 16-cylinder car won three of five Grand Prix races in 1936, i.e. half of the circuit races and all of the mountain races that Auto Union took part in.
