Horch 18-22 hp saloon, 1905

In the development of his automobiles, August Horch was especially interested in continuously enhancing the utility value of a motor vehicle in regular use. Reliability of the drive elements was not the only priority factor. User-friendliness became ever more important. For this reason, he equipped his cars with a steeply slanting steering column from 1905 in order to allow a more comfortable seating position for the driver. A 4-speed gearbox allowed the engine's torque to be exploited more effectively.
