After 2011 and 2012 Audi Sport customer racing has won the 12-hour race at Bathurst, Australia, for the third time with the Audi R8 LMS.
Premiere in a strong environment

Audi Sport Team WRT was on the grid in Australia for the first time. The cockpit of the number 37 Audi R8 LMS was shared by Dutchman Robin Frijns, Briton Stuart Leonard and Belgian Dries Vanthoor. In the early stage the squad encountered strong competition particular in the camp of its own brand. The two racing cars of Audi Sport Team MPC were leading the race, but due to an accident and a defect, in the end lost all chances.

Victory following fightback

For Audi Sport Team WRT the race began with two setbacks. In the first four hours of racing the radio was not working, depriving the squad of a tactical element that is particularly crucial in endurance racing. The repair cost the team valuable time. Additional time was lost due to a drive-through penalty. Although the number 37 Audi R8 LMS temporarily had a one-lap deficit, the driver trio fought back to the front. In the final stage Vincent Vosse’s team won out with a narrow margin and celebrated its first victory in Australia.
