GT3: AUDI REDUCES GAP
The 2019 24 Hours of Spa with freak weather conditions and an interruption of the race for several hours proved unrelenting once again. Audi Sport customer racing repeatedly led the race and in the end achieved fourth position.

CHRISTOPHER HAASE CLOSER TO THE TOP SPOT
Fourth position in the overall classification and third in the group of teams entered in the Intercontinental GT Challenge: the best Audi R8 LMS did well in a field of 72 entrants and eleven manufacturers – in spite of several setbacks. In qualifying, Christopher Haase/Frédéric Vervisch/Markus Winkelhock had only achieved 22nd place. They went on to lead the race some of the time and following two drive-through penalties Audi Sport Team Saintéloc ultimately took fourth position. Christopher Haase and his teammates were awarded 15 points for it. As a result, the Audi Sport driver nearly cut his deficit in the standings in half, from 23 to twelve points, and in fourth place is now sitting in a promising position.

EIGHT OUT OF ELEVEN AUDI CARS FINISH THE RACE
Audi Sport Team WRT with Robin Frijns/Nico Müller/René Rast repeatedly led the race as well. However, when Rast had to get out of the way of a group of cars shortly before the end, he was no longer able to avoid an accident. In the end, the three privateer drivers Rik Breukers, Norman Nato and Charles Weerts in position twelve were the best contenders of Belgian Audi Club Team WRT. In total, eight of the eleven Audi R8 LMS that had started finished the biggest GT3 race in the world, including four drivers racing under the entry of the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup that had awarded the drivers nomination as a prize for excellent performances in the 2018 season. In just four weeks’ time, the fourth of five rounds in the Intercontinental GT Challenge is coming up on the circuit at Suzuka.

APPEARANCE BY THE AUDI R8 LMS GT2
In conjunction with the 24-hour race, the new Audi R8 LMS GT2 made an appearance in front of a large audience as well. The 640-hp sports car was driven in a parade through downtown Spa, attracted a lot of attention in the paddock and led the field of race entrants on the warm-up lap. Starting in 2020, the youngest of Audi Sport customer racing’s four models will be able to compete in customers’ hands in three international championships to be held in America, Europe and Asia. It is also the ideal race car for Track Days and for deployments in Race Resorts.
