GT3: MISSED CHANCE IN THE FINALE
In the fifth and last round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge in South Africa, Audi Sport missed the chance of scoring its sixth title success within the space of just four years.

SUCCESSFUL DEBUT
The circuit at Kyalami between Pretoria and Johannesburg was on the IGTC calendar for the first time. Hence the highest-ranking GT3 racing series in the world was held on five continents for the first time in the 2019 season. Audi had travelled to South Africa with two R8 LMS cars. In qualifying, Audi Sport Team Land with car number 29 and the three Audi Sport drivers Christopher Haase/Christopher Mies/Markus Winkelhock secured a spot on the front row of the grid on setting the second-best time. Kelvin van der Linde/Dries Vanthoor/Frédéric Vervisch started from 15th place on the grid for Audi Sport Team WRT in car number 25.

MISTAKES IN THE RACE
Both Audi R8 LMS cars were in the leading position once during the 9-hour race. However, in the end, number 29 had to settle for fourth and number 25 for eleventh position, as neither of the two racing cars remained without mistakes. Two drive-through penalties for Audi Sport Team Land, plus a penalty and a puncture for Audi Sport Team WRT, caused both Audi R8 LMS to lose ground in a tough competition. In the end, Audi achieved third place in the manufacturers’ classification and Frédéric Vervisch position five in the drivers’ classification.
