The Intercontinental GT Challenge began its 2019 season at the Bathurst 12 Hour hosted at the Mount Panorama Circuit in Australia. The Audi Sport customer teams of Matt Stone Racing and Hallmarc had reason to celebrate after twelve hours of racing with two podium finishes in the Pro-Am category. Second place in class went to the Audi R8 LMS from Matt Stone Racing, which was driven by Todd Hazelwood, Roger Lago and David Russell, who finished ahead of Marc Cini, Dean Fiore and Lee Holdsworth from the Hallmarc team. Audi Sport customer racing, unbeaten in the Intercontinental GT Challenge manufacturers’ title since 2016, experienced a setback to the launch of its title defence in 2019. The Audi Sport Team Valvoline had led the race with both of its cars in the early phase, but had to settle for fourteenth place in the end.

Long-time Audi Sport customers, the W Racing Team (WRT) from Belgium, added another title to the tally of Audi Sport customer racing in 2019. At the finale of the 2018–2019 Gulf Sportscars Championship (GSC) in Abu Dhabi, youngster Charles Weerts won both of the season’s final two races. In doing so, the Belgian squad clinched the overall GSC teams’ title after having won every race that it competed in during the season – five victories in total.

In Malaysia, the Tianshi Racing Team (TSRT) closed its 2018–2019 Asian Le Mans Series campaign with another visit to the podium. Audi Sport driver Dries Vanthoor clinched pole position for the four-hour endurance race at the Sepang Circuit, the first pole worldwide for the new evolution of the Audi R8 LMS on its debut in the Asia-Pacific region. In the race, Vanthoor, together with his teammates David Chen and Xu Wei, finished runner-up in class – adding a third podium to the TSRT squad’s score this season. In the sister car, Max Wiser was crowned as the drivers’ champion of the GT-Am category for the second time.
