VICTORY ON THE MOUNTAIN

A once-around-the-clock triumph Down Under and a 1-2-3-4 victory at Daytona headlined the month of February for Audi Sport customer racing.
Audi Sport Team WRT won the 2018 Bathurst 12 Hour in Australia. The opening round of the 2018 Intercontinental GT Challenge on the Mount Panorama Circuit saw the trio of Robin Frijns, Stuart Leonard and Dries Vanthoor clinching the third overall victory achieved by the brand with the four rings. As a result, Audi, as the title defenders in the drivers’ and manufacturers’ classifications of this series, managed a top-class start to the new season.
The Audi R8 LMS driven by James and Theo Koundouris, Duvashen Padayachee and Ash Walsh was classified as the winners of the amateur class after completing the most laps in the class – before Walsh was involved in the accident that brought the race to an early end under a red flag.
The season finale of the 2018 TCR Middle East Series saw young Italian Giacomo Altoè, driving an Audi RS 3 LMS from Pit Lane Competizioni, scoring a podium result with a third place at the Bahrain International Circuit. Altoè clinched the runner-up position in the drivers’ standings, whilst Pit Lane Competizioni finished second and third in the teams’ standings with its combination of Audi and Volkswagen TCR cars, entered on behalf of the TCR Academy.
The Audi RS 3 LMS competes at the highest international level this year. Six examples of the touring car will take part in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup that has rounds in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. Team WRT will run a two-car team with Audi Sport drivers Gordon Shedden from Scotland and Frenchman Jean-Karl Vernay. Comtoyou Racing will enter four cars led by Audi Sport driver Frédéric Vervisch from Belgium, who will be joined by his privateer driver teammates Aurélien Panis (F), Denis Dupont (B) and Nathanaël Berton (F).
