The third month of 2018 was highlighted by a premiere for the new Audi R8 LMS GT4: The newest model from Audi Sport customer racing was victorious for the first time in the United States, during a month that also marked the race car’s half century production figure.
James Sofronas and Alex Welch from GMG Racing took the chequered flag in first position at the Circuit of The Americas. The duo piloted their Audi R8 LMS GT4 to the race win in the GTS class, for GT4 race cars, of the Pirelli World Challenge’s SprintX classification. In doing so, they clinched the first race win for the Audi R8 LMS GT4 in the United States – adding to the model’s 2018 victory tally that includes a one-two triumph in the Dubai 24 Hours in January.
In close vicinity to the Neckarsulm location, the 50th Audi R8 LMS GT4 was driven out of the assembly hall at “Audi Böllinger Höfe” in Heilbronn in mid-March, where comes from the production line as its road-going siblings. The GT4 model is a worldwide sales success and, like no other race car at Audi, benefits from synergies in terms of its technical concept and production in the flexible, low-volume manufacturing operation. Since deliveries began on 15 December 2017, Audi Sport customer racing has produced 50 race cars and further orders are on hand.
The Singha Plan-B by Absolute Racing team’s drivers Kantasak Kusiri and Bhurit Bhirombhakdi stood on top of the podium at the Sepang Circuit. The Thai duo won the second race of the GT Asia Series season opener with an Audi R8 LMS during a weekend that witnessed a total of four podium finishes for Audi campaigners. 
Car Collection Motorsport won the amateur class for GT3 race cars in the “12H Silverstone” race, the opening round of the European Championship season of the 2018 24H GT Series. Dr. Johannes Kirchhoff, Elmar Grimm and Ingo Vogler drove the class-winning Audi R8 LMS.
The season opener of the Australian GT Trophy Series during the Formula One Grand Prix weekend in Melbourne, Australia proved to be very successful for the Audi customers using the first generation of the Audi R8 LMS. A total of nine podium results included four race victories for Nick Kelly. The Australian, piloting his Audi R8 LMS ultra, won the Trophy class in all four of the weekend’s races, which ran together with the season opener of the Australian GT Championship.
In round two of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge in North America, the Audi RS 3 LMS was unbeatable once more. Kuno Wittmer and Rodrigo Sales won the two-hour race at Sebring with an 18-second advantage. As a result, the driver duo from Compass Racing took the lead of the standings from their teammates, Britt Casey jr. and Tom Long, who had won the opening event at Daytona.
At the opening event of the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival, Billy Lo from Hong Kong in an Audi RS 3 LMS from Champ Motorsport won the TCR class in both of the races hosted at the Zhuhai International Circuit.
