GT3: Disappointment in Australia

At round one of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, Audi Sport experienced a disappointing race, while a customer team secured a podium result in its class.

Bad luck in the race

Setbacks in the race hampered all three of Audi Sport Team Valvoline’s Audi R8 LMS entries at the Bathurst 12 Hour. The No. 22 car retired when Garth Tander attempted to avoid hitting the No. 2 sister car and crashed into the wall. Later, a malfunctioning rev sensor required the No. 2 car to undergo lengthy repairs. Due to the large gap, Christopher Haase, Dries Vanthoor and Frédéric Vervisch did not restart. And finally the No. 222 fought valiantly for the lead and turned the fastest race lap only to have a puncture and the subsequent repair of a damaged wheel arch relegate them back to 18 th place.

Another trophy for Hallmarc

In the meantime, the Hallmarc customer squad celebrated another podium result. In 2017 and 2019, Marc Cini, Dean Fiore and Lee Holdsworth had already scored third place in the Pro-Am class. In 2015, Cini also claimed third place for Audi in the Am class. This year, the driver trio once again put their trust in an R8 LMS from the Melbourne Performance Centre. Following the season opener in Australia, Audi Sport customer racing faces the two biggest long-distance races of the year with the 24-hour races at the Nürburgring in May and at Spa in July. The Audi R8 LMS has already claimed five victories in Germany’s Eifel region and four in the Ardennes.
