The inaugural event of the legendary 24-hour race took place in 1924 and since 1964 it has been held every year with different touring car categories. GT racing was introduced as the top category in 2001, with GT3 becoming the race’s premiere class since 2011.
Achieving success on the 7.004-kilometre roller coaster track in the Ardennes is rewarded in several ways. In addition to the outstanding individual success in the major 24-hour race for GT3 cars, points can be scored in two important championships. In the GT World Challenge Europe, the race carries particular weight because points are awarded at various points throughout the race. At the same time, the 24-hour race is the first of four rounds in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the only worldwide racing series for GT3 sports cars.
