WTCR: SEVENTH POSITION IN CHINA

Audi Sport had to settle for a seventh position as the best result on the seventh race weekend of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup in China.

DIFFICULT STARTING POSITIONS

The unfavourable grid positions on the circuit at Ningbo were the greatest obstacles to better results of the four Audi Sport drivers. In both qualifying sessions, the drivers remained below their expectations. Dutchman Niels Langeveld from Comtoyou Team Audi Sport in the tenth spot on the grid was the best driver of an Audi RS 3 LMS. In a race without many overtaking manoeuvres, he improved to ninth position. By contrast, the second race was turbulent. Frenchman Jean-Karl Vernay from Leopard Racing Team Audi Sport as the best Audi Sport driver from 13th on the grid had already fought back to seventh position when fierce attacks by his rivals caused him to drop back to eleventh again.

FIGHT-BACK TOWARDS THE END

The event ended for Audi Sport in a strong fight shown by Frédéric Vervisch in the third race. The Belgian from Comtoyou Team Audi Sport had entered the final sprint race from fourteenth on the grid, defeated one rival after the other, avoided contacts in an accident-prone race and improved to seventh position. Briton Gordon Shedden fought back from the 25th spot on the grid to 14th in the second and to 15th in the third race. The next round will be held at Suzuka, Japan, from 25 to 27 October.
