FIA WTCR: TWO VICTORIES AT FINALE

Audi Sport customer racing finished the inaugural season of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup with two victories in Macau and looks back on a good tally this season.

JEAN-KARL VERNAY AND FRÉDÉRIC VERVISCH STRONG

The Macau street circuit was ideal for the Audi RS 3 LMS: The production-based touring car was able to fully display its aerodynamic advantages at the finale in Asia. From fourth on the grid, Jean-Karl Vernay from Audi Sport Leopard Lukoil Team stormed to the front in race one and celebrated his fourth victory this season. In race two, Frédéric Vervisch achieved his breakthrough: the Belgian had previously finished on podium six times and now scored his first victory with Audi Sport Team Comtoyou after having started from grid position three. As a result, the Audi RS 3 LMS clinched 17 podiums including six victories at ten events. Each of the three Audi Sport drivers – Vernay, Vervisch and Gordon Shedden – has won at least once.

GOOD HISTORIC TALLY

Audi was on the grid in Macau for the first time in the nineteen-nineties. At that time, the Audi A4 quattro super touring car clinched two victories in the Guia race. Together with the current two successes of the Audi RS 3 LMS Audi’s touring car track record on this street circuit has now increased to four. This makes Audi’s touring cars equally successful in Macau as the Audi R8 LMS GT3 sports car that has clinched four winners’ trophies since 2011.
