A day after their exhilarating 8-0 win in the opening game of the 20/21 Bundesliga season, there was something a bit special on the itinerary for Bayern Munich’s players. As every season, this Saturday in September was when Audi officially handed over the club’s new company cars. What was special about it? This season the Champions League winners will drive Audi e-tron!

Watched by Audi’s Hildegard Wortmann, Director of Marketing & Sales and Sabine Maassen, Director of HR & Organisation, the players received not only 19 Audi e-trons (both SUV and Sportback), but also an exclusive introduction to the world of e-mobility. The event was held in the grounds of the Audi Driving Experience at Munich Airport.

Bayern’s executive team, represented by directors Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Hasan Salihamidzic and Andreas Jung, also attended the event and were able to take a close look at the new Audi e-tron.

“The electrification of our fleet with the Audi e-tron and the installation of charging points at our training ground are good examples of how the partnership between Audi and FC Bayern goes far beyond a normal sports sponsorship.”

— Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Chairman of FC Bayern Munich AG.

Meanwhile, the team attended a briefing session on the new vehicles. The players listened intently to the Audi experts who explained the features of the new cars in detail and how straightforward the charging stations are to use. After the formal part came the practical. Bayern’s players were able to get up close and personal with their new cars for the first time. Clearly delighted, the team, led by manager Hansi Flick, completed the first laps in their fast, new car around a route specially prepared for them.

But there was more. As a special surprise, Audi organised professional works drivers. In a so-called ‘hot lap’, the recent triple champions were able to drive at top speed on the track and were obviously impressed by the performance of their new company cars. Even though entertainment and the sheer fun of driving were paramount at this event, there was more to it.

“It’s great that FC Bayern, together with Audi, is now the first international club on the road with electric power.”

— Manuel Neuer

With this first electric vehicle fleet, the partnership between Audi and FC Bayern is living progress and is positioning itself clearly for the mobility of the future. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is enthusiastic about this too:

It’s great that FC Bayern, together with Audi, is now the first international club on the road with electric power.

For thanks to Audi, not only the team but also the club’s officials will be driving electric cars in future.

Fun for all in the ‘Reverse Challenge’

After their first laps in the new e-tron, the players competed in two groups in a ‘Reverse Challenge’. The aim of the competition was to reverse around an obstacle course of traffic cones using the Audi e-tron’s technical aids.

Old hands David Alaba and Javi Martinez joined newcomer Tanguy Nianzou during his drive – demonstrating that Bayern’s team spirit is just as important off the field. The 18-year-old, who had passed his driving test only two weeks earlier, benefited from his teammates’ psychological support.

In the end, this team sensationally won the ‘Reverse Challenge’ and accepted another trophy for their trophy cabinet.
