Whether you’re heading to the coast or, as seen here, to the mountains in an Audi Q5*, Audi customers can now enjoy an even better travel experience thanks to the collaboration with Tolltickets.
It can be so easy: in partnership with Tolltickets, Audi is offering toll boxes for numerous European countries. These allow for more convenient and faster passage through express lanes for electronic toll collection in countries such as Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, and the Scandinavian nations.
A summer’s day on the Brenner Autobahn, heading south. The sun is shining down, traffic is at a standstill, and cars are lined up bumper to bumper in front of the toll station. Families with vacation plans, business travelers with appointments, adventurers in their campers – everyone is united by waiting. But while some are still rummaging around for cash or trying to get into the correct lane, an Audi sails by. The barrier opens automatically: no ticket, no stress. Welcome to a new freedom in the world of travel.
Europe is a diverse continent, and that includes the road network. Over 85,000 kilometers of which are subject to tolls, and the trend is increasing. The types of tolls themselves are often fundamentally different. In Austria you need a “vignette” – a prepaid toll sticker valid for the whole country for a specific period of time. There are route-based toll stations in Italy and France, while in Scandinavia there are digital fees. Clearly, anyone traveling across borders has to navigate a complex web of regulations.
This is precisely where Audi comes in with a smart solution. Together with its partner Tolltickets, the brand with the four rings offers electronic toll boxes that work in over ten European countries, including Scandinavia, western Europe, and individual countries such as Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal.
Starting last year, Audi customers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have been eligible to the offer. It was also launched in Great Britain, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Poland this June.
The box is simply attached to the windshield and communicates automatically with the toll systems. Billing is digital, transparent, and can be viewed online at any time.
This not only saves time but also reduces stress: There is no stopping, no searching for change or a credit card, and no language barriers to deal with.

Audi is expanding its range of toll services and integrating them into the MMI infotainment system. In some vehicles, such as the Audi A3 and Q4 e-tron*, the navigation system already indicates if the route leads through a toll-regulated country and shows a QR code leading to the booking page for the online purchase of digital vignettes and route tolls.
Going forward, this feature will be available in all Audi models from 2023 onwards. This turns the car into a travel assistant – proactive, connected, and customer-oriented.
The toll solutions are based not only on technological sophistication, but also on a unique model of cooperation. Audi subsidiary A4nXT found the partner Tolltickets and made the integration possible. A4nXT connects start-ups with various departments at AUDI AG in order to quickly and efficiently put new solutions into practice – without going through traditional investment channels.
The result is a product that is not only highly useful but also one to get excited about.
What at first appears to be an inconspicuous rectangle on the windshield turns out to be a practical helper upon closer inspection. The digital toll solution from Audi and Tolltickets exemplifies a new way of traveling: convenient, intelligent, and knowing no borders. It turns the car into a travel companion that thinks for itself – and demonstrates what mobility looks like in the digital age.
However, the digital journey towards greater travel comfort in an Audi is not over yet. Audi and A4nXT are currently working with various partners on further services – for instance, to conveniently pay for parking and fuel directly from the car. The vision: a seamless mobility experience.
