New e-hybrid models from Audi: the efficient propulsion mix

In addition to purely electric cars like the Audi A6 e-tron, Audi is also focusing on plug-in hybrids. A range of such variants with extended electric range has been introduced since 2025, making it even more appealing for customers to switch to plug-in driving.

The new plug-in hybrid models are now easily recognized by the new designation “e-hybrid” and are an essential part of the electrification strategy. In the future, the brand with the four rings will offer a plug-in hybrid for almost every combustion engine model series. At the same time, Audi is constantly developing these cars' key performance attributes such as all-electric range and charging speed. New, larger high-voltage batteries in the new A5 e-hybrid, A6 e‑hybrid, Q3 e-hybrid and Q5 e-hybrid, for example, impress with around 45 percent more energy content and around 46 percent higher energy density than the previous generation. In combination with the intelligent operating strategy, this ensures an electric range of up to 119 kilometers.

The best of both worlds

“The increased electric range of our new plug-in hybrids enables our customers to cover the majority of their daily journeys using only electric power,” explains Audi CTO Geoffrey Bouquot. “Our hybrid technology combines the best of both worlds and provides a high degree of flexibility for everyday life. And with the new technology designation ‘e-hybrid,’ this is now also recognizable at first glance.”

“As part of our model initiative, we are significantly expanding our range of plug-in hybrids in 2025,” adds Audi CEO Gernot Döllner. “Outputting up to 270 kilowatts, our new generation of plug-in hybrid models offers a sporty and comfortable driving experience as well as a harmonious balance between performance and efficiency.”

Audi steadily expands its model range.

The hybrid management of the new models is designed for efficiency, flexibility, and maximum comfort. For maximum efficiency, it incorporates parameters such as sensor data, route planning, and route progression. The predictive operating strategy also allows significantly more electrical energy to be recovered through regenerative braking and to spread out its use intelligently along the route. Driving on electric power alone can be prioritized using the EV button or via a setting in the MMI.

Charging the plug-in hybrids can be integrated into everyday life as required - for example at fast-charging points with up to 50 kW direct current. At charging points such as a wallbox or municipal charging stations, three-phase charging with 11 kW alternating current is now possible. As a result, the charging process from 0 to 100 percent only takes around 2.5 hours there. The Mode 3 cable required for this is included in the standard equipment.
